Kenai Central graduate Allie Ostrander continued her smashing debut on the indoor collegiate track scene with a victory in the 3,000 meters at the Husky Classic on Saturday at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle.
The Soldotna runner and Boise State freshman finished the race in 8 minutes, 54.27 seconds, for the victory, giving her a Mountain West record.
Dempsey Indoor is an oversized track. Ostrander’s is the third-fastest oversize track 3,000-meter time in collegiate history. If all track sizes are taken into account, it’s the 10th-fastest time in collegiate history.
The performance echoed Ostrander’s performance in the 5,000 meters two weeks ago at the UW Invitational in Seattle. There, her 15:21.85 broke a Mountain West record and also was the third-fastest oversize time in history.
Ostrander now has the fastest collegiate times in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters this season.
The Broncos will not compete again until the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships from Feb. 25 to 27 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
