Ostrander takes 5th at national meet

Kenai Central junior Allie Ostrander has already established her dominance as a 3,200 meter runner in Alaska prep sports, but on Saturday, Ostrander proved she is just as competitive in a true 2-miler.

Running a time of 10 minutes, 28.78 seconds, Ostrander placed fifth in a field of 13 at the New Balance High School Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina. Hannah Debalsi took the victory in a time of 10:09.08.

The race was run as a true two miles, which equates to 3,216 meters. For a runner like Ostrander, though, it’s only a difference of seconds in contrast to a typical 3,200. Ostrander’s personal best in that distance was a 10:03.66 she ran at the Arcadia Invite in California in April.
