Kenai’s Jason Parks took 38th overall, 36th among men and 11th in the 30 to 34 age group Sunday in the 43rd Chicago Marathon.
The event, which was not held in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, is one of the World Marathon Majors. The Associated Press said about 35,000 runners competed in the event.
Parks finished at 2 hours, 27 minutes, 13 seconds. He finished the first half of the race in 1:11:37. In 2020, Parks won the Kenai River Half Marathon in an event record 1:10:38. In 2019, Parks won the Kenai River Marathon in 2:46:04.
Seifu Tura Abdiwak of Ethiopia won the men’s race at 2:06:12, while Ruth Chepngetich of Kenya won the women’s race in 2:22:31.
