Peninsula puts 3 players on 1st-team all-state teams

The Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches announced its All-State Teams this week, with three Kenai Peninsula players making first team.

For the Class 2A girls, Seward junior point guard Ava Jagielski earned a spot on the first team. Jagielski led the Seahawks to the Class 2A state title along with fellow junior Mikinley Williams, who made the second team.

For the Class 2A boys, Ninilchik junior guard Kade McCorison made the first team. McCorison broke the single-game scoring record for the Wolverines twice this season, finally settling on 55 points in a mid-February loss to Seward.

Also for the Class 2A boys, Seward put senior Talon Lemme on the second team, and junior Emerson Cross and senior Van Shank on the third team.

The Seahawks won the Southern Conference tournament and also grabbed third place at Class 2A state.

For the Class 1A boys, Cook Inlet Academy senior Ian McGarry made the first team. The Eagles won the Peninsula Conference and also took second place at the Class 1A state tourney.

Eagles junior Alek McGarry made the second team.

For the Class 3A girls, Nikiski freshman Blakeley Jorgensen made the third team. Jorgensen nearly led the Bulldogs to state out of the Peninsula Conference.

For the Class 1A girls, senior Ella Rollman was given honorable mention. Rollman led the Eagles to a Peninsula Conference title and a Class 1A state berth.

SoHi hockey won the End of the Road tournament in Homer and the wrestling team gained 20 individual wins.
