Soldotna’s Travis Temple led the Kenai Peninsula by taking seventh out of 24 Pro Class racers on Saturday at the Valdez Mayor’s Cup.
Temple said the Mayor’s Cup is the second biggest cross-country snowmachine race in Alaska, behind the Iron Dog. There were a total of 70 racers in the five classes Saturday.
In the Semi-Pro class, Soldotna’s Chad Moore was 12th and Soldotna’s Cole Crandall finished last after having some issues with his snowmachine.
Temple said the Pro race was eight laps for about 200 miles, while the Semi-Pro was six laps for 160 miles.
Temple said the race was a good step forward in his mission to make the Kenai Peninsula a force in cross-country snowmachine racing again. Last year, Temple said the peninsula had just one rider in the Mayor’s Cup.
Temple thanked his boss Lacy Harber of Yellowjacket Oilfield Services for making his race possible.
Temple, Moore and Soldotna’s Bradley Kishbaugh will compete in the Skwenta 200 on Saturday.
