Saturday baseball: Kenai finishes sweep of Kodiak

The Kenai Central baseball team defeated Kodiak 10-0 in five innings on Saturday in Northern Lights Conference action at the Soldotna Little League fields.

The Kardinals, now 2-1 in the league and 2-1 overall, played at Soldotna because the field in Kenai was not ready yet.

Everett Chamberlain pitched five shutout innings for the Kardinals, giving up just a hit and a walk while striking out four.

Daniel Steffensen was 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI for Kenai, while Gabe Smith was 2 for 3 with two runs, three RBIs and a home run, Gabe Joanis was 2 for 2, and Zane Pellegrom had two runs and two RBIs.

South 7, Soldotna 2

The Stars dropped a nonconference road contest in Anchorage on Saturday to fall to 3-1 overall.

Soldotna opens its home slate Sunday against Kodiak at 10 a.m.

The Wolverines were able to get to Stars starter Trenton Ohnemus for three runs and two hits in the first inning.

Brenden Theel then kept South off the board for the next 2 1-3 innings, with SoHi cutting the gap to 3-2 after four innings.

The Wolverines got to Easton Hawkins for two runs in 1 2-3 innings, and Brett Hostetler for two runs in an inning.

Derrick Jones collected two of SoHi’s three hits at the plate.

North Pole 20, Homer 5

The Patriots topped the Mariners in three innings at the Redington tournament Saturday. Homer is 2-2 overall.

Henry Wedvik and Clyde Clemens both had a tough time keeping North Pole off the board on the mound.

CJ Burns, Weston Marley and Wedvik had the hits for Homer.
