Saturday: Cannava, Boonstra, Laker help Team Alaska to 2nd at Junior Nationals

Soldotna senior Ariana Cannava, Soldotna junior Tania Boonstra and Kenai Central junior Chase Laker helped Team Alaska to a second-place finish at 2025 Junior Nationals at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Utah.

The event, featuring the top Under-20 skiers in the United States, concluded Saturday. Team Intermountain won with 1,216 points, while Team Alaska was next at 1,052.

The final event contested Saturday was a 4-by-3.33-kilometer mixed classic relay. Only the top relay on each team is able to score points in the overall team standings.

Boonstra, skiing on Team 2 at Under 18, was able to get 50 points for Team Alaska.

She teamed with Noa Kam-Magruder, Madelin Lowen and John Lohuis to take 12th in 45 minutes, 33.1 seconds. Intermountain won at 43:25.7.

Cannava also was on Team 2 at Under 20, but Team Alaska’s Team 1 took third to take the points.

Cannava and Murphy Kimball, Sammy Legate and Justin Lucas took seventh at 38:17.7. Intermountain won at 36:38.7.

Laker was on Team 5 at Under 18 with Ethan Styvar, Ingrid Baurick and Fiora Graziano. The squad took 32nd in 50:26.8. The victory went to Intermountain at 43:25.7.
