Saturday hoops: SoHi girls, CIA girls, Ninilchik boys wrap up tourney titles

The Soldotna girls and Palmer boys both finished 3-0 to win the Craig Jung Kenai River Challenge on Saturday at Kenai Central High School.

The SoHi girls finished with a 43-41 victory over Palmer. The Moose had three attempts at the bucket in the final seconds but failed to convert to send it to overtime.

For the Stars, Hope Hillyer had 11, Anika Jedlicka had 8, Laurel Johnson and Juliet Innes had 5, Anaulie Sedivy had 4, Grayson Henry and Isabelle Cruz had 3, and Katie Debardelaben and Cassidy Kruse had 2.

For the Moose, Presley Wright had 16, Kaylyn Miller had 10, Lillian Muilenburg had 4, Kaelyn Downey had 3, and Mariah Bothwell, Loren Nichols, Grace Muilenburg and Addy Wilson had 2.

Palmer got the title with a 60-53 victory over Soldotna, which finished 2-1.

For the Moose, Lukas Owen had 18, Logan Rolston had 17, Maddox Moore had 12, Nolan Garner had 5, Logan McCann and Cooper Sparrow had 3, and Logan Johnson had 2.

For the Stars, Izaiah Gilbert erupted for 28. Also, Easton Hawkins had 9, Bryan Berg had 6, Jayden Stuyvesant had 5, Theo Huff had 4 and Damari Adams had 1.

The Seward girls topped Kenai 38-30. Both teams are 1-2.

For the Seahawks, Lia Shank had 11, Ava Jagielski had 10, Natalie Sieminski had 9, Grace Fleming had 6 and Regan Siebert had 2.

For the Kards, McKenzie Spence had 9, Bryleigh Williams and Ellsi Miller had 6, Sierra Hershberger had 4, Gracee Every had 3 and Willow Graham had 2.

The Kenai boys finished 1-2 at the tourney by topping Seward 51-44. The Seahawks were 0-3.

For the Kards, Caleb Litke had 17, Miles Metteer had 10, Carter Felchle had 9, Reid Titus had 7, Ben Harris had 5 and Riel Castillo had 3.

For the Seahawks, Van Shank had 13, Talon Lemme had 10, Emerson Cross had 6, Mason Elhard and Lane Peterson had 5, Noah Price had 3 and Jack Lindquist had 2.

Soldotna’s Hope Hillyer and Palmer’s Lukas Owen were the tournament MVPs.

The girls all-tournament team was Soldotna’s Anaulie Sedivy, Palmer’s Prelsey Wright, Kenai’s Ellsi Miller, Kenai’s Bryleigh Williams and Seward’s Ava Jagielski.

The boys all-tournament team was Soldotna’s Izaiah Gilbert, Palmer’s Nolan Garner, Seward’s Emerson Cross, Kenai’s Caleb Litke and Palmer’s Logan Rolston.

The free throw champs were Seward’s Grace Fleming and Luke Elhard, while the 3-point champs were Rolston and Sedivy.

CIA Classic

The Cook Inlet Academy girls and Ninilchik boys wrapped up titles Saturday with 3-0 runs through the tournament.

The Eagles defeated Birchwood Christian 58-44 to wrap up the title.

The Wolverines defeated Shaktoolik 78-75 in overtime as Shaktoolik finished 2-1. Shaktoolik played the championship with five players.

Kade McCorison poured in 37 points for the Wolverines, while Max Russell had 21, Andon McCorison had 11 and Holdon Cameron had 9.

For Shaktoolik, Seth Paniptchuk had 25, Mason Paniptchuk had 18, Ryan Evan had 15, Bryce Patterson had 9 and Chase Katchatag had 5.

The Ninilchik girls finished 2-1 at the tournament by topping Soldotna’s JV 35-29.

For the Wolverines, Lucy Reynolds had 18, Lily Berger had 10, Kate Hendryx had 4, Rylee Lemon had 2 and Caelis Cress had 1.

The CIA boys finished the tourney 1-2 with a 65-36 victory over Birchwood Christian, which finished 0-3.

Ian McGarry finished a tournament in which he had four dunks with 22 points. Also, Lucas Oyoumick had 8, Owen Braband, Brandt Rollman and Zach Armstrong had 7, Brady Baeten had 6, Matthew Phillips had 5 and John Guerra had 3.

For Birchwood, AJ Severns had 13, Mi’chale Bugh had 7, Finn Courtney had 6, Kaleb Worland had 5, Jonah Brisson and Karsten Wetzel had 2, and Rylan Palmer had 1.

The Ninilchik girls and Birchwood Christian boys won the sportsmanship awards at the tournament.

The 3-point contest winners were Rylee Lemons of Ninilchik and Max Russell of Ninilchik, while the free throw contest winners were Ella Rollman of CIA and Ian McCarry of CIA.

The girls all-tourney team was Lily Berger of Ninilchik, Caelis Cress of Ninilchik, Peyton Smith of Birchwood, Elise Becker of Birchwood, Beka Dillingham of CIA and Rollman.

The boys all-tournament team was Russell, AJ Severns of Birchwood, Kade McCorison of Ninilchik, Ian McGarry of CIA and Seth Paniptchuk of Shaktoolik.

Doc Larson’s Roundball Classic

The Nikiski girls finished 0-3 at the tournament in Wasilla with a 68-27 loss to North Pole.

Blakeley Jorgensen had 10 points for the Bulldogs, while Alexa Iyatunguk had 6, Madison Iyatunguk had 5, and Avery Ellis and Kailey Stynsberg had 3 apiece.

For the Patriots, Jade Skipps had 25, Taimane Skipps had 13, Alyssa Pearson had 10, Tiahna Guzman and Miyah Guzman had 6, Casey Castro had 4, and Dawson Smothers and Anneliese Holsing had 2 apiece.
