The Peninsula Oilers defeated the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks 5-1 on Saturday in Alaska Baseball League action at Lee Jordan Field in Chugiak.
The Oilers are 2-2 in the league, while the Chinooks are 1-4.
Sunday, Peninsula stays on the road to face the Anchorage Bucs at 2 p.m. at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.
The Oilers trailed 1-0 entering the top of the sixth inning, but got three runs in that frame, then tacked on insurance runs in the seventh and ninth innings.
That was more than enough for Peninsula pitching, which gave up just three hits.
Ben Craig got the start and went four innings, giving up a run on two hits while walking two and striking out two.
Ryne Palmer would get the win for three sterling innings of relief. Palmer didn’t allow a run and only allowed a hit while walking one and striking out six.
Aidan Gonzalez closed up shop with two scoreless and hitless innings, walking one and striking out two.
Khadim Diaw and Michael Elko led the Oilers offense from the top two spots in the order. Diaw was 3 for 5 with two runs, while Elko finished 3 for 5 with three RBIs and a run.
