The host Nikiski boys soccer team defeated Redington 5-4 on Saturday to secure the program’s first win since 2019.
The nonconference triumph puts Nikiski’s record at 1-8-0.
Niles Broussard had four goals for the Bulldogs, while David Weathers had one goal and three assists.
Nikiski head coach Horst Haunold lauded his players for a good team effort.
Nikiski girls 7, Redington 3
The host Bulldogs notched the nonconference victory Saturday to end the regular season at 3-7-1.
Savanna Stock celebrated senior night and her last home game by pouring in five goals. Shelby McGahan Burman added two goals, while Emma Weeks got the victory in goal.
In addition to Stock, Nikiski also honored Serenity Freeman, Celina Martinez and Giovana Tabosa for senior night.
Kenai girls 3, Grace Christian 0
The Kardinals wrapped up a 14-0-0 regular season with a nonconference victory at Anchorage Football Stadium.
Maddie Malone had the shutout for Kenai.
The lone goal of the first half came from Kylee Verkuilen on a penalty kick.
In the second half, Kori Moore headed in a cross from Brynnen Hanson. Verkuilen then scored again on a direct kick from 25 yards out.
“It was a good team win on a windy day in Anchorage,” Kenai head coach Dan Verkuilen wrote in a text message.
Grace Christian boys 1, Kenai 0
The Kardinals finished the regular season 8-4-3 by taking a nonconference loss at Anchorage Football Stadium on Saturday.
Kenai coach Shane Lopez texted that Grace scored on a weird goal, and the Kardinals had a goal called back.
“Just one of those days,” Lopez texted. “Guys battled until the end.”
The coach wrote that Aloshia Cross did a great job of building up the attack in the midfield, while Bridger Beck was good building the attack from the back.
Palmer girls 0, Homer 0
The visiting Mariners finished the regular season 5-9-1 with the nonconference tie on Saturday.
Mally Im had the shutout in net for Homer.
Palmer boys 6, Homer 1
The Mariners finished their regular season 4-7-3 with a nonconference loss at Palmer on Saturday.
The Homer goal came from Niko Sulczynski, assisted by Lucas Story.
The Mariners played in the Valley on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
“The team played tough,” Homer coach Adam Diaz wrote in a text message. “We used what energy was left from the previous games the days before and we played until the end.
“We are all looking forward to the first game at regions. We gotta ‘takeoff’ at regions.”
