Saturday softball: SoHi tops Palmer; Kenai swept in Kodiak

The Soldotna softball team defeated Palmer 14-1 in Northern Lights Conference action at the Soldotna Little League fields Saturday.

The Stars are now 14-7 overall and 6-2 in the league.

The game went four innings, with the Stars leading 8-0 after the third inning.

Isabelle Cruz gave up an unearned run on four hits while walking nobody and striking out four.

Tatum Cooper had two runs and two RBIs for the Stars, while Alyssa McDonald was 2 for 3 with three runs, Cruz was 3 for 3 with four RBIs, Bella Gares was 3 for 3 with two RBIs, Aliya Blough had two runs, Kadee Adams had three runs and Kacey Cunningham had two runs.

Kodiak 17, Kenai 2; Kodiak 13, Kenai 1

The host Bears swept a Saturday Northern Lights Conference doubleheader from the Kardinals. There was a doubleheader Saturday because the teams had a game rained out Friday.

Kenai is 6-10 overall and 2-3 in the league.

The 17-2 game went three innings. Kenai went up 2-0 after the top of the first inning, but the Bears dominated after that.

Seylor Tomrdle and Kailey Stynsberg had the hits for Kenai, while Kyana Griskevich gave up 11 runs in two innings and Lola McEwen gave up six runs in two-thirds of an inning.

The 13-1 game went four innings, with Kodiak leading 5-0 after the first, 8-1 after the second and 9-1 after the third.

Avery Ellis went all four innings on the mound for the Kardinals, yielding 13 runs — 11 earned. Ellis and Stynsberg both picked up a pair of hits for the Kards.
