Seward football cruises past Valdez

The Seward football team defeated Valdez 46-26 on Saturday at Roger Steinbrecher Memorial Field in Seward in nine-man Denali Conference play.

The Seahawks have yet to lose in the two years of nine-man action, and are 2-0 in the league and 6-0 overall this season. Nikiski is 1-1 and 3-2, Monroe Catholic is 1-1 and 1-4, and Valdez is 0-2 and 1-4.

Seward head coach Tyler Mallory said in a text message his squad was up 40-0 at the end of the first quarter and pulled the starters.

The Seahawks were able to score in all three phases of the game. Noah Price forced a fumble and recovered it for a touchdown, while Hunter Forshee-Kurtz had an 80-yard punt return for at touchdown.

Price, Ronan Bickling and Forshee-Kurtz also scored on rushing touchdowns.

Jack Gardner added an interception for the Seahawks.

Seward closes the regular season by hosting Monroe Catholic at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
