The Kenai Central girls soccer team moved to 3-1-1 overall with a 4-0, nonconference victory over Houston on Thursday.

Maddie Malone had the shutout for the Kardinals.

Kenai led 2-0 after the first half. Kate Wisnewski scored from 30 yards out, then Tait Cooper scored after the ball bounced around in the box for a bit.

In the second half, Leah Fallon scored on a cross from Kori Moore, and Moore scored on an assist by Rylie Sparks.

Kenai coach Dan Verkuilen said his team kept good possession and could have scored more with accurate shots.

“We’re working on it,” Verkuilen said of accurate shots.

The coach said Kylie Verkuilen did a good job controlling the midfield, while Moore is making her presence known more and more at forward. He also said the defense continues to play well.

Felicia Weisser had the shutout for Homer.

“It was a good game for us to produce some offense and maybe get a little more confidence in that area,” Homer coach Mike Tozzo said.

The coach said everybody on the team played well and was able to keep the ball on the Redington side of the field.

Homer boys 6, Redington 0

The Mariners moved to 2-4 overall with the nonconference victory over the Huskies. Jake Tappan had a hat trick for Homer, while Walden Kraszeski had the shutout.

“I think what was successful was the kids finally started having fun, and a big part of that was through communication,” Homer coach Adam Diaz said.
