University of Alaska Anchorage junior Dani McCormick set the new bar for UAA women in the 800 meters Saturday at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, California.
McCormick, a 2015 Soldotna High graduate, broke her own outdoor school record in the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 6.17 seconds, lowering her previous mark by a whopping 1.43 seconds. The time is good enough to automatically qualify McCormick for the NCAA Division II championships.
The time is third-fastest in Division II this spring, and McCormick beat out 68 other Division I and II racers at the meet. Earlier this year, McCormick set the UAA indoor track record in the 800 with a time of 2:07.13.
