SoHi, Homer lose at Palmer Hockey Showdown

West Anchorage used a pair of third-period goals to cement a 4-2 nonconference win over Soldotna during the first day of the Palmer Hockey Showdown Thursday at the MTA Events Center in Palmer.

Soldotna’s Galen Brantley III scored early in the third to cut West’s lead to 3-2, but Revy Mack supplied some insurance with an Eagles goal just more than a minute later.

Lucas Kline also scored for the Stars. Trent Powell grabbed an assist.

West out-shot the Stars 33-18. Josh Tree made 30 saves for SoHi.

Dimond followed with 9-2 win over Homer in the tourney.

Dylan Hoey and Jakub Hall scored two goals each for the Lynx. Aiden Arno and Kazden Stineff scored for the Mariners, who were out-shot 58-13.

In other tournament action, Colony beat Juneau 3-1 and Wasilla topped host Palmer 5-2.

Today, SoHi plays Colony at 6:15 p.m. and Homer plays Wasilla at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Soldotna and Wasilla tangle at 11 a.m. and Homer and Colony face off at 3 p.m.
