The visiting Soldotna boys soccer team defeated Wasilla 2-0 on Thursday in nonconference action.
The Stars moved to 4-1-1 on a goal by Simon Willets in the 21st minute and Owen Buckbee, assisted by Johnny Wardas, in the 40th minute. Luke Hillyer had the shutout.
“We kind of emptied the bench to be ready for Palmer, but still had a ton of chances,” SoHi coach Erik Dolphin wrote in a text message. “We should have scored more, but we’ll take the result.”
Wasilla girls 3, Soldotna 0
The host Warriors dropped the Stars to 3-3-0 in the nonconference affair.
SoHi boys coach Erik Dolphin wrote in a text message that both Sunny Miller and Avery Powell made some good saves for the Stars.
“Wasilla had the bulk of possession and looked like the better team, but not by a ton,” Dolphin wrote.
Homer girls 5, Nikiski 0
The host Mariners notched a Peninsula Conference victory over the Bulldogs.
Homer is now 1-1-0 in the league and 3-3-0 overall, while Nikiski is 0-2-0 and 2-3-0.
Channing Lowney had a pair of goals for Homer, while Izzy Dye, Talia Weisser and Anna Neland added strikes. Felicia Weisser had the shutout in net.
Emma Weeks had over 10 saves in net for the Bulldogs.
Homer boys 6, Nikiski 0
The host Mariners picked up a Peninsula Conference triumph to move to 1-1-0 and 3-3-0, and drop Nikiski to 0-2-0 and 0-3-0.
“I would like to say thank you to Nikiski for traveling to play us,” Homer coach Adam Diaz wrote in a text message. “Today was a true test of composure. Nikiski played us strong off the ball and we worked to stay composed while being fouled.
“My boys came to play and we strived to play to a teammate and score together as a team. We have one goal and that’s to continue to ‘take off.’”
In the first half for the Mariners, Kaiden Bogie scored on an assist from Lucas Story in the seventh minute, Michael Reutov scored on a Story assist at the 13th minute, and Espen Hennick scored on a Niko Sulczynski assist in the 26th minute.
In the second half, Sulczynski scored on a Bogie assist in the 44th minute, Story scored on a Jake Tappan assist in the 54th minute, and Sulczynski scored on a Reutov assist in the 56th minute.
Walden Kraszeski and JJ Felice shared the shutout.
Nikiski coach Horst Haunold wrote in a text message that his team played short-handed, but showed improvement.
