The Soldotna baseball team defeated Palmer 4-2 on Saturday to take third place at the Buddy Dale Tournament in Wasilla.
The Stars moved to 5-1 overall after the game, which was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning. SoHi struck for four runs in the bottom of the fifth, then Palmer got its two runs in the top of the sixth.
Atticus Gibson got the win, going six innings and giving up two unearned runs on six hits while walking none and striking out seven. Andrew Pieh pitched the last inning, yielding only a walk.
At the plate for SoHi, Jacob Belger was 2 for 3 with a run, while Gibson was 2 for 2 with an RBI. Also for the Stars, Levi Mickelson had a run, Nate Mowery had a hit and a run, and Gavin Jones had a hit, run and RBI.
Kenai 12, Houston 2
The Kardinals moved to 1-3 overall by topping the Hawks in consolation play at the Buddy Dale tourney.
Gabe Smith was 3 for 3 for Kenai, while Brady Bostic was 4 for 4 with three RBIs.
Kenai coach Luke Oliver said in a text message that his pitchers were throwing more strikes and the defense was communicating better. The coach also wrote that his team continues to do a good job putting the ball in play.
Homer 14, Redington 7
The Mariners opened up their season on the road Friday with a victory over the Huskies. Homer then completed the road trip Saturday with an 8-0 loss against Bartlett and 9-0 loss against Service.
