Soldotna boys, Homer girls wrestlers win at Luke Spruill tourney; Soldotna girls win all duals at Lathrop

The Soldotna boys and Homer girls wrestling teams won the Luke Spruill Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Kenai Central High School.

The Stars had 251 points, while Nikiski had 242, Homer had 229, Kenai Central had 183, Dimond had 168.5, Seward had 141 and Mountain City Christian Academy had 41.

Homer’s girls scored 65, while Kenai Central had 44, Nikiski had 29, Dimond had 25, and Seward had 14.

The Luke Spruill Memorial Tournament is held in honor of Luke Spruill, a 1995 Kenai Central graduate who died in a fishing accident in Bristol Bay in 2004. Spruill won two state titles at Kenai Central, then recovered from a car accident before wrestling with the powerhouse Iowa wrestling program, and returning home to share the head coaching job at Kenai Central.

The Most Outstanding Wrestler at the tournament went to Mayaac Schmit, who won all four of his matches by pin at 285 pounds.

Winning titles for the Stars were Ryan Buchanan at 119, Titus Watts at 125, Jacob Strausbaugh at 130, Cody Coonrod at 145, Hunter Bras at 152, Bowen Korth at 189, Andrew Fielden at varsity A 112, Ryatt Weed in varsity A at 152 and Anthony Payne in varsity A at 160.

Also for the Stars, Sam Henry was second at 103, Cassius Miller was second at 145, Grady Abrams was second at varsity A 112, Sam Strouse was third at 112, Jace Gilliam was third at 119, Braze Cassidy was third at 140, Kevin Steger was third at 285, Paxton Roach was third at varsity A 135, Harold Rudstrom was third at varsity A 140, Riley Vacek was fourth at varsity A 145, Nicholas Calhoun was fourth at varsity A 171, Jaden Carlyle was fifth at 119 and Zane Wright was fifth at 171.

Winning titles for Homer were Justus Grimes at 135, Maxwell Herndon at varsity A 135, Shea Yatchmeneff at varsity A 215, Heather Shae at varsity girls 107, Saoirse Cook at varsity girls 138 and Roane Cook at varsity girls 185.

Also for Homer, Paul Minke was second at 140, Brayden Woods was second at 152, Zayne Adams was second at varsity A 140, Alexander Van Meter was second at varsity A 160, Ryan Alcorta was second at girls 145, Bryce Glidden was second at girls 165, Luca Fitzpatrick was third at 103, David Webb was third at 160, Adgel Chandler was third at 215, Maxwell Barker was third at varsity A 112, Alma Kedem-Zeligman was third at girls 120, Bryce Hagge was fourth at 112, Jadon Weisser was fourth at 112, Landyn Woods was fourth at 135 and Zachariah Anderson was fifth at varsity A 285.

In addition to Schmit, titles for Nikiski went to Jakeup Martin at 160, Truit McCaughey at 215, Trigger McCaughey at varsity A 140, Johnny Ralston at varsity A 171 and Destiny Langston at girls 235.

Also for Nikiski, Wyatt Maguire was second at 135, Kaiden Parrish was second at varsity A 145, Brody Nelson was second at varsity A 152, Jackson Wittmer was second at 171, Paisley Maxwell was second at girls 107, Jade Hemphill was second at girls 126, Elliana Isabell was second at girls 185, Seth Payne was third at 189, Michael Bennett was third at varsity A 215,Breaker Schmit was third at varsity A 285, Jorja Peppinger was third at girls 165, Aiden Quiner was fourth at 103, Zander Stroh was fourth at 125, Robert Isabel was fourth at 215, Rex Wittmer was fourth at 285, Jerry Snodgrass was fourth at varsity A 160, Connor Ley was fifth at varsity A 152 and Mason Doth was sixth at 130.

Winning titles for Kenai were Daniel Steffensen at 140, Nathan Teates at varsity A 189, Edith Watts at girls 145 and Jenna Yeoman at girls 165.

Also for Kenai, Jaxson Young was second at 125, William Roberts was second at 215, Thaddeus Lingenfelter was second at varsity A 189, Alicia Perez was second at girls 120, Isabella Asi was second at girls 138, Abednego Larson was third at 135, Keagan Stanley was third at 152, Cody Holmes was third at varsity A 145, Leighton Wilshusen was third at varsity A 160, Davis Deese was third at varsity A 171, Macalen Marion was fourth at 152, Bryce Jolicoeur was fourth at 171, Rusty Holmes was fourth at varsity A 140, Luke Cole was fourth at varsity A 285, Ryan Johnson was fifth at 130, Atlas Ruark was sixth at 160, Charlie Vermette was sixth at varsity A 152 and Neil King was sixth at varsity A 160.

Winning titles for Seward were Tommy Jarnig at 103, Ridge Conant at 112 and Chloe Lastimosa at girls 126.

Also for Seward, Emery Kirchner was second at 112, Aidan Schilling was second at 119, Hunter Forshee-Kurtz was second at 130, Gideon Schrock was second at 160, John Van Buskirk was second at 285, William Larow was third at varsity A 189, Amos Ballard was fourth at 130, Anthony Smith was fourth at 140, Iver Gates was fourth at 145, Noah Price was fourth at 160, Mesha Bidnyy was fourth at varsity A 152, Alejandro Herrera was fifth at 152 and Alex Fink was fifth at varsity A 140.

Soldotna girls finish undefeated at Battle in the Interior

The Soldotna girls wrestling team won all five of their dual meets at the Battle in the Interior at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks on Friday and Saturday.

The Stars defeated the Student Wrestling Development Program 42-22, defeated West Valley 48-18, defeated Bethel 46-18, defeated Lathrop 48-12 and defeated North Pole 27-11.
