Soldotna soccer sweeps Nikiski

The visiting Soldotna girls and boys soccer teams swept Peninsula Conference matches Tuesday against Nikiski.

The Stars girls won 4-0 to move to 5-0-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the conference, while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-6-0 and 0-4-0. The SoHi boys won 9-0 to move to 5-0-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the league, while the Bulldogs are 1-6-0 and 0-4-0.

For the Soldotna girls, Jazzalynn McDonald scored on an assist from Rowan Peck, Emily O’Reagan scored unassisted, Teagen Kobylarz scored on an assist from Jillian Duncan, and Kaytlin McAnelly scored unassisted.

Ryan Queen and Isabella Rodriguez shared the shutout in net.

Nikiski coach Angie Coelho wrote in a text message that her team showed great hustle, and had some shots on goal. Nikiski had lost to Soldotna 12-0 on April 16.

“It’s hard to mention any one player, they all did much better compared to our first game of the season against Soldotna,” Coelho wrote.

Bryan Berg had the shutout for the Soldotna boys.

The Bulldogs were able to hang with the Stars for the first half, trailing 2-0 after 40 minutes. In the first half, James Alden scored on an assist from Ely Campbell and Ryan Mcvey scored on a penalty kick.

In the second half, Andrew Arthur scored on an assist from Nuno Venturi, Venturi scored on an assist from Jace O’Reagan, O’Reagan scored on an assist from Lane Hillyer, Hillyer scored on an assist from Venturi, Venturi scored on an assist from O’Reagan, Hillyer scored on an assist from Owen Buckbee, and Alden scored unassisted.

Nikiski coach Horst Haunold said his team played well and that he was proud of them for keeping it to 2-0 at the half. Haunold said his team tired in the second half.
