South to play for Legion title
It only took five innings Tuesday for South Anchorage to put away Dimond 14-1 in an Alaska Legion AA state baseball tournament semifinal at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage. The win puts South (18-12) into the Legion state championship game for the second straight year and the fifth time since 2007.
South took advantage of 11 walks and nine base hits to cruise to the victory. Max Micks went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs to lead Post 4. Sage Dudick tossed 3 2-3 innings of scoreless relief.
Dimond will face Juneau in an 11 a.m. elimination game Wednesday, for which the winner will move into Thursday’s championship game against South. The title match is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Mulcahy.
Juneau beat Chugiak 14-9 in the second-chance consolation side of the bracket Tuesday, putting the Crimson Bears into Wednesday’s semifinal with Dimond.
Juneau won with 13 walks and 15 hits, with Steven Baseden leading the way with a 4-for-5 day, adding two RBIs and four runs. Robert Markovich pitched seven innings with seven strikeouts.
