Sterling’s Morgan Aldridge won The Why Not Tri on Sunday in Wasilla.
The adult race involved a 400-yard swim, 9.5-mile bike and 5-kilometer run.
Aldridge finished at 1 hour, 0 minutes and 6.69 seconds to top the 1:01:45.25 of runner-up Nylene Warner of Wasilla.
Warner defeated Aldridge 7:39 to 7:48 in the swim, but Aldridge’s big advantage was on the bike. She had the top women’s time of 167 finishers at 25:28, with Warner finishing at 28:35. Warner was able to run 22:28 to the 24:32 of Aldridge, but it was not enough to make up for Aldridge’s advantage on the bike and in transition times.
Also from the Kenai Peninsula in the women’s race, Nancy Chambers of Anchor Point was 140th in 1:48:43.56.
In the men’s race, Kevin Chambers of Anchor Point was 63rd in 1:28:12.53.
