The Soldotna boys basketball team defeated Cordova 56-52 in overtime Sunday to take second at the George Houston Capital City Classic in Juneau.
The Stars moved to 4-2 overall, and 2-1 at the tournament, by winning in overtime for the second straight night.
Izaiah Gilbert sprained his ankle in Saturday’s game and played through it, but did not play Sunday.
SoHi head coach Darren Zibell wrote in a text message that Easton Hawkins responded with a career-high 23 points. Bryan Berg started for Gilbert and Zibell wrote that Berg had a great game defensively, while pitching in with 11 points.
Also for SoHi, Theo Huff had 6, Jayden Stuyvesant had 5, Damari Adams had 4, Kenai Lepule had 3, and Owen Buckbee and Josh Babcock had 2.
Gilbert made the all-tourney team for the Stars, while Hawkins was the free throw champ and Adams won the dunk contest.
For the Wolverines, Noah Pearson had 18, John Itliong had 16, Chiko Jacob had 15 and Thomas Nothstine had 3.
The Kenai Central girls also finished the tournament with a win, topping Klawock . The Kardinals finished 1-2 at the tournament and are 2-4 overall.
Ellsi Miller led the charge for the Kards with 19, while Bryleigh Williams had 8, Willow Graham had 6, McKenzie Spence had 4, and Sierra Hershberger, Savannah Hershberger, Gracee Every and Hallie Songer had 2.
For Klawock, Kayla Marvin had 9, Kiera Sanderson and Lea Armour had 6, Jayla Edenshaw had 4 and Alli Demmert had 2.
Joe Floyd Tournament
The Homer girls and boys basketball teams both lost on the final day of the 56th annual Joe Floyd Basketball Tournament in Kodiak.
The Mariners both finished 0-3 in the tourney, and are 0-3 overall.
The Homer girls lost 50-43 to Bethel.
For the Mariners, Channing Lowney had 19, Keagan Niebuhr had 15, Madalyn Miotke had 5 and Kylee Akee had 4.
For the Warriors, Briella Herron had 19, Ashlynn Lonewolf had 9, Malinda Simon had 8, Ambrea Jackson had 7, Kyana Harpak had 5 and Hannah Leinberger had 2.
The Homer boys lost to Bethel 73-64.
Einar Pederson poured in 19 for the Mariners, while Henry Wedvik had 18, Spencer Dye had 10, CJ Burns had 8, Preston Stanislaw had 5 and Graham Plumlee had 4.
For the Warriors, Madden Cockroft had 21, Ethan Wheeler had 14, Kenneth Fox had 12, Jackson Iverson and Keegan Thompson had 9, and George Lee and Mason Berlin had 4.
