The visiting Kenai Central baseball team defeated a rapidly improving Homer 3-2 on Thursday in Northern Lights Conference action.
The Kardinals move to 7-4 in the league and 7-5 overall, while Homer drops to 1-8 and 1-9. May 9, Homer had lost 20-5 to Kenai in two innings.
Camden Wise got the start on May 9 and Thursday, and showed just how far the Mariners have come. Wise went six innings and gave up three unearned runs on five hits while walking one and striking out two. Henry Wedvick finished with a scoreless inning.
Kenai’s Charlie Chamberlain was able to outduel the Homer duo. Chamberlain pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out six.
Homer led 1-0 after the first, but Kenai tied it up in the second. The Kards went up 3-1 in the top of the fifth. The Mariners were able to get one back in the bottom of the fifth, but that was it.
Jackson Marion, Gabe Joanis and Jacob Joanis had the runs for Kenai. Clyde Clemons was 2 for 3 for the Mariners.
