The Soldotna baseball team, the two-time defending Division II state champions, opened up their season with a 10-0 victory in five innings over East in Anchorage on Thursday.
Trenton Ohnemus, Colby Sturman and Brenden Theel combined for a no-hitter in the five innings. Ohnemus pitched two innings and struck out five, Sturman pitched 1 1-3 innings and struck out three and Theel pitched 1 2-3 innings and struck out three. The only East runner came when Sturman hit a batter.
Matthew Schilling had two runs for the Stars, while Derrick Jones had three runs and two RBIs, Andrew Pieh was 2 for 2 with two runs and two RBIs, and Tucker Blough had two RBIs.
Homer 13, Colony JV 3
The visiting Mariners topped the Knights JV 13-3 in seven innings on Thursday.
CJ Burns was 2 for 2 with two runs and two RBIs for Homer, while Nico Erickson had two runs, Weston Marley was 2 for 3, Jayden Sims was 2 for 5 with three RBIs, Cohen Boyd had two runs and Clyde Clemens was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.
Marley pitched three scoreless innings for Homer, while Boyd gave up three runs — two earned — in four innings.
