Thursday baseball: Soldotna, Kenai collect wins

The visiting Soldotna baseball team defeated Palmer 13-1 in five innings Thursday in Northern Lights Conference action.

The Stars improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the league.

Trenton Ohnemus went all five innings for the Stars, giving up an unearned run on three hits while walking three and striking out 11.

Derrick Jones was 3 for 4 with two runs and four RBIs for the Stars, while Matthew Schilling was 2 for 2 with three runs, Wyatt Gagnon was 2 for 4, Easton Hawkins was 2 for 3 with three runs, and Colby Sturman was 3 for 3 with two RBIs.

Kenai 18, Homer 4

The visiting Kardinals topped the Mariners in five innings in Northern Lights Conference action Thursday.

Kenai, which avenged a 4-3 loss to Homer on April 24, moves to 4-1 in the league and 4-1 overall. The Mariners are 2-3 and 1-2.

Gabe Smith worked the first four innings for Kenai, yielding four runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out seven. Jackson Marion finished up with a scoreless innings in which he allowed a hit.

Daniel Steffensen had three runs and two RBIs for Kenai, while Jacob Joanis had three runs, Gabe Joanis had two RBIs, Gabe Smith was 2 for 3 with two runs, Braden Smith was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, Kaloni Beddow was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Everett Chamberlain had three runs, and Zane Pellegrom had three runs and two RBIs.

The Kards got to CJ Burns for 10 runs — five earned — in 3 2-3 innings, Malachi Raymond for two runs without an out, and Preston Stanislaw for six runs in 1 1-3 innings.

Camden Wise was 2 for 3 and Weston Marley was 2 for 2.
