Thursday hoops roundup: Presley tourney gets going in Ninilchik

The Tok girls, Ninilchik boys, and Unalaska girls and boys picked up victories on the first day of the first edition of the Keith Presley Memorial Tournament on Thursday at Ninilchik School.

The Tok girls topped Ninilchik 65-20, getting 23 points from Allison Demit.

For Ninilchik (3-13 overall), Kate Hendryx had 7, Bella Berger had 5, Lily Berger had 4, and Rylee Lemons and Aliah Maher had 2.

The Ninilchik boys defeated Tok 92-68, hitting a season-high points total to improve to 13-7.

Maxx Russell poured in 32 points for the Wolverines to celebrate getting honored for senior night. Kade McCorison had 28, while Andon McCorison had 18, Eric Radar had 7, Brandt Mill had 4, Holdon Cameron had 3, Joaquin Jackson and John Jackson had 2, and Gabe Kerrone had 1.

The Unalaska boys topped Nikiski 56-35 as the Bulldogs fell to 0-15.

For the Bulldogs, Carter Eiter had 12, Kameron Bird had 7, Kevin Love had 5, Ryder Maguire had 4, Lynn Deveer had 3 and Dylan Hall had 2.

In other tournament action Thursday, the Unalaska girls defeated Nikiski JV 56-23.

Friday, the Unalaska girls play Tok at 2 p.m., the Unalaska boys play Tok at 3:30 p.m., the Nikiski JV girls play Ninilchik at 5 p.m. and the Nikiski boys play Ninilchik at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, the Tok girls play Nikiski JV at 11 a.m., the Tok boys play Nikiski at 12:30 p.m., the Unalaska girls play Ninilchik at 2 p.m. and the Unalaska boys play Ninilchik at 3:45 p.m.

Palmer girls 44, Kenai 37

The host Moose notched a nonconference victory to drop the Kardinals to 11-8 overall.

For the Kardinals, McKenzie Spence had 13, while Bryleigh Williams had 10, Ellsi Miller had 7, Willow Graham had 3, and Sierra Hershberger and Evelyn Cooper each had 2.

For Palmer, Presley Wright had 15, Jasmine Hephner had 8, Addy Wilson and Kaelyn Downey had 7, Lily Muilenburg had 4 and Grace Muilenburg had 3.

The Kenai girls play Houston at 6 p.m. Friday and at Redington at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Palmer boys 49, Kenai 38

The host Moose notched a nonconference victory to snap a seven-game winning streak for the Kardinals and drop them to 12-7.

Miles Metteer pumped in 16 to lead the Kardinals, while Mason Tunseth had 8, Reid Titus and Caleb Litke had 6, and Eli Smith had 2.

For Palmer, Logan Rolston had 16, Maddox Moore and Nolan Garner each had 8, Lukas Owen had 6, KJ Henry had 4, Logan McCann had 3, and Logan Johnson and Truman Dean each had 2.

The Kenai boys play at Houston at Friday at 7:30 p.m. and at Redington at Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Seward girls 47, Homer 18

In nonconference action, the host Seahawks won for the 14th straight time to improve to 14-2, while the Mariners dropped to 3-15 overall.

Ava Jagielski and Mikinley Williams each had 14 for Seward, while Grace Fleming had 13. Also, Natalie Sieminski had 4, while Lia Shank had 2.

For Homer, Channing Lowney had 10, while Keagan Niebuhr had 6 and Klyee Akee had 2.

The Seward girls play at Redington at 6 p.m. Friday and at Houston at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Seward boys 63, Homer 60

The host Seahawks notched a nonconference victory over the Mariners. Seward evened its record at 8-8, while the Mariners fell to 5-11.

Mason Elhard paced the Seahawks at 18, while Talon Lemme had 14, Emerson Cross had 13, Van Shank had 11, Jack Lindquist had 5 and Lane Petersen had 2.

For Homer, Henry Wedvik had 17, Jamen Anderson had 14, Einar Pederson had 10, Ben Engebretsen had 7, and Spencer Dye and Preston Stanislaw each had 6.

The Seward boys play at Redington at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at Houston at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Nikiski girls 49, Grace JV 31

The Bulldogs improved to 6-10 overall with the victory in the first round of the Lady Grizzly Hardwood Classic in Anchorage. Nikiski, now 6-10 overall, will play Monroe Catholic in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Friday.

Blakeley Jorgensen pumped in 22 points for the Bulldogs, while Madison Iyatunguk had 10, Avery Ellis had 6, Abby White had 5, Kailey Stynsberg had 4 and Addison Perkins had 2.
