Thursday hoops: Seward girls, boys top Ninilchik on opening day of Seahawk Classic

The Seward girls and boys basketball teams swept Ninilchik on Thursday in the opening round of the Seahawk Classic in Seward.

The Seahawks girls topped the Wolverines 63-31 to move to 9-4 overall and drop Ninilchik to 8-5 overall.

Robin Cronin pumped in 15 points for the Seahawks, while Ava Jagielski, Grace Fleming and Mikinley Williams had 12 apiece. Natalie Sieminski added 8, while Lia Shank had 4.

For Ninilchik, Riley Tucker had a game-high 22 points, while Addi McCorison had 6 and Klohie Hughes had 3.

The Seahawks boys won 58-38 to move to 10-3 overall and drop the Wolverines to 8-5.

Bergen Davis paced Seward with 17, while Nick Ambrosiani had 16, Emerson Cross had 11, Ben Ambrosiani had 9, Talon Lemme and Kupono Albino had 2, and Van Shank had 1.

For Ninilchik, Kade McCorison had a game-high 28, while Rowan Mahoney had 8 and Carter Lemons added 2.

In other tournament action, the North Pole girls topped Bethel 46-43 and the Bethel boys defeated North Pole 56-47. Jade Skipps paced the North Pole girls with 10, while Allie Alexie had 17 for the Warriors. Greg Turner led the Bethel boys with 18, while the Patriots got 20 from Landon Swinning.

Nenana Invitational Tournament

The Cook Inlet Academy boys won, while the CIA girls lost, Thursday at the opening round of the tournament.

The Eagles boys collected an 81-48 victory over Tok to move to 11-2 overall.

For the Eagles, Alek McGarry had 29, Ian McGarry had 21, Brandt Rollman had 13, Lucas Oyoumick had 6, Jeremiah Dillingham had 4, Owen Braband and Brady Baeten had 3, and Matthew Phillips had 2.

For Tok, Marvin Captain had 15, Chario Espinosa had 13, Gavin Maynard had 8, Ethan Gunter and Dustin Captain had 4, Craig Paul had 3 and Griffin Jacobs had 2.

The CIA girls lost to Tok 54-19 to fall to 0-13 overall.

Ella Rollman led the Eagles with 13 points, while Kristi Stoll, Rebekah Dillingham and Maria Smith all had 2.

For Tok, Skyla Frank Young had 17, Lesette Standifer had 15, Danica Sanford had 11, Tenylle Gunder had 6, Neveah Evans had 3 and Nova Paul had 2.
