The Homer boys ousted Kodiak in the first of a two-game weekend soccer series at home with a 6-0 victory.
Charles Rohr scored twice to lead the Mariners, who also got goals from Ethan Pitzman, Oliver Beck, Daniel Reutov and J.J. Williamson.
Kenny Cortez started the first half in goal for Homer, then was relieved by Tucker Weston in the second half to earn for the shutout.
Homer (7-3 overall) head coach Warren Waldorf still pointed to Kenai Central and Colony as the two powerhouse teams in the Northern Lights Conference to beat, but said Thursday’s win was another step in improving to peak form.
“The kids are happy with the way they played tonight,” he said. “It’ll be nice to get Simon (Dye) and Dexter (Lowe) back (from injury).”
