Track: SoHi girls, boys sweep meets in Kodiak; Homer girls, boys take 2nd at Wasilla Invite

The Soldotna and Seward track and field teams traveled to Seward for meets Friday and Saturday.

Friday, the teams competed in the Kodiak Invitational. Kodiak and Soldotna tied for the boys top spot with 43 points, while Seward had 16. For the girls, SoHi won with 49, while Kodiak and Seward tied at 24.

Saturday, the squads competed in the Kodiak Quad on the Rock.

The SoHi boys won with 52, while Kodiak had 36 and Seward had 5. The Stars girls put up 43 points for the win, while Kodiak had 29 and Seward had 21.

Wasilla Track and Field Invite

Colony swept the Wasilla Track and Field Invite on Friday and Saturday, with the Homer girls and boys both finishing second.

On the girls side, the Knights had 136 points, while Homer had 105. The Colony boys scored 121, while Homer had 69.

Also from the peninsula for the girls, Kenai was 16th and Soldotna was 17th. For the boys, Kenai was 12th, Soldotna was 13th and Nikiski was 17th.

Gracie Miotke had a big meet for the Homer girls. She won the 300-meter hurdles in 46.51 seconds and the 100-meter hurdles in 16.14. She also was second in the 400 at 59.90.

Also in the top six in running events for the Homer girls were Claira Booz in fifth in the 800 at 2:33.64 and fifth in the 3,200 at 12:27.30, and Myra Kalafut in fourth in the 3,200 at 12:19.87 and sixth in the 1,600 at 5:45.07.

In the field events, Jaelynn Kennon was fourth in the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches, Reilly Sue Baker was fifth in the high jump at 4—6 and fifth in the long jump at 15—1, and Brightly Thoning was sixth in the long jump at 14—6.75.

The Mariners girls picked up a pair of relay victories.

Thoning, Maddy Miotke, Gracie Miotke and Immi Im won the 1,600 relay in 4:21.74, and Booz, Kalafut, Cassidy Hardyman and Etta Bynagle won the 3,200 relay in 10:53.85.

In the 800 relay, Liliana Harris, Cecily Shavelson, Ayda Henry and Baker were second in 2:00.95, and Harris, Alexandrea Jones, Isabella Clarke and Kennon were third in the 400 relay at 54.52.

In the boys running events, Johannes Bynagle won the 3,200 at 9:55.34 and was third in the 1,600 at 4:35.33. Tait Ostrom also picked up a win for Homer in the 300 hurdles at 44.04.

Jai Badajos was fourth in the 800 at 2:04.26, while Maxwell Herndon was second in the 300 hurdles at 46.08 and third in the 110 hurdles at 18.31.

Emelian Melkomukov scored some field points by taking sixth in the triple jump at 37—5.5.

Badajos, Ostrom, Bynagle and Caleb Bunker won the 3,200 relay in 8:30.44. Herndon, Bynagle, Ostrom and Badajos were third in the 1,600 relay at 3:46.11.

For the Kenai girls, Selah Coots was fourth in the triple jump at 31—.75, Bryleigh Williams was fifth in the long jump at 11—10 and Willow Graham was fifth in the shot put at 22—10.75.

For the Kenai boys, Gage Ivy was second in the triple jump at 39—4.5, Delen Byrd was second in the 110 hurdles at 18.16 and Matthew Krol was sixth in the 110 hurdles at 19.28.

For Nikiski, Ryder Maguire led the way by taking sixth in the boys 800 at 2:09.45.

For Soldotna, Luke Miller won the boys shot put at 48—4.25 and was fifth in the discus at 129—1. Juliet Innes was sixth in the discus at 103—10.
