Visiting Kenai Central swept Nikiski on Tuesday, on Nikiski’s senior night.
Kenai Central girls 55, Nikiski 49
The Kenai Central girls topped Nikiski 55-49 on Tuesday. The Kardinals climb to 6-12 overall.
At the end of the first quarter, the Kardinals led 20-6, but the Bulldogs came back in the second to put up a fight, closing the top half on a buzzer-beating 2-pointer by Abigail White, down only 7 points at 28-21.
Nikiski continued to gain ground until they briefly reclaimed the lead in the fourth quarter, but in the final minutes of the game, the Kardinals put themselves back on top and seized the win.
Emma Beck led the scoring with 34 for Kenai. Avia Miller had 10, Ellsi Miller had 5, Sierra Hershberger had 4 and Alex Nelson had 2.
Alexa Iyatunguk had 12 for the Bulldogs. Shelby Burman and Maggie Grenier had 10, Avery White had 7 and Abigail White had 4. Madison Iyatunguk, Mandee Roofe and Avery Ellis all had 2.
Kenai Central boys 67, Nikiski 41
The Kenai Central boys dropped Nikiski 67-41 on Tuesday. The Kardinals are 6-11 overall, while Nikiski slides to 13-10.
Daniel Steffensen and Miles Metteer each scored 13 for Kenai. Reid Titus had 12, Ben Harris had 11, Garrett McCanna had 6, Riel Castillo had 4, William Wilson and Carter Felchle had 3 and Jacob Katzenberger had 2.
Dylan Hall had 10 for Nikiski. Seth Payne, Ryder MacGuire and Lynn Deveer all had 6. Carter Eiter had 5, Kameron Bird had 4 and Connor Ley and Johnny Ralston had 2.
During senior night festivities, the Bulldogs took time to recognize Brooke Abel, Shelby Burman, Maggie Grenier, Emma Weeks, Avery White, Johnny Rolston, Mylan Johnson, Katelyn Stichal, Seth Payne and David Weathers.
