The visiting Kenai Central softball team defeated Homer 13-9 on Tuesday in Northern Lights Conference action.
The Kardinals improved to 2-4 in the league and 4-9 overall, while the Mariners drop to 2-1 and 2-10.
Homer had a 7-5 lead after three innings, but Kenai went up 8-7 in the top of the fourth. The Mariners tied it in the bottom of the fifth, but the Kards scored one in the top of the sixth and four in the top of the seventh.
Kyana Griskevich was 2 for 3 with four runs and two RBIs for the Kards, while Maggie Grenier scored two runs, Kailey Stynsberg scored two runs, Sarai Bravo-Moe scored two runs and S Hemphill had five RBIs.
Avery Ellis went the distance for Kenai, giving up 13 hits and nine runs — seven earned. Ellis walked four and struck out five.
Emily Owens was 3 for 5 for Homer, while Alaiyah Brost had two RBIs, Charlotte Fraley had two runs, Julie Guess was 3 for 4 and Keagan Niebuhr was 2 for 3.
Becca Trowbridge went the distance for Homer, giving up 13 runs — 12 earned — on eight hits while walking 11 and striking out 11.
