The visiting American Legion Twins lost 8-1 to Palmer and 5-4 to Eagle River in nine innings on Tuesday in league play.
The Twins, who had been undefeated in eight games going into Tuesday, still are in second place in the league and already have clinched a spot in the state tournament, which begins July 20 at Anchorage’s Mulcahy Stadium.
Post 20 (18-10-1 overall) is 11-4 in league play, with only a 1 p.m. game at West remaining in the season. Service leads the league with a 12-1 record.
Against Palmer, which is 8-6 in the league, the Twins fell into a 7-0 hole after two innings.
Derrick Jones gave up six runs — two earned — on four hits while walking two in an inning of work. Atticus Gibson pitched 2 1-3 innings, giving up a run on three hits while striking out three. Andrew Pieh worked a scoreless 1 1-3 innings, giving up a hit while walking one and striking out two. Charlie Chamberlain allowed a run in 1 1-3 innings, giving up two hits.
Bryant Marks, of Kenai River Brown Bears fame, went 6 2-3 innings for the win, giving up an unearned run on seven hits while walking four and striking out four.
Pieh was 2 for 2 for the Twins, while Hunter Williams and Atticus Gibson were 2 for 4.
Against Eagle River, now 11-2 in the league, the Twins took a 2-0 lead in the first, but the Wolves tied it by the end of the second. The Twins went up 4-2 in the top of the fourth, but Eagle River had it tied by the end of the fifth.
In the ninth, Atticus Gibson walked the first two batters, then the winning run scored on an error. Gibson worked one inning, giving up the unearned run while walking two.
Trenton Ohnemus started and lasted six innings, giving up four runs — three earned — on five hits while walking four and striking out three. Williams pitched a scoreless and hitless inning, walking three.
Jace Crall led the Twins attack, going 3 for 5, while Simon Grenier had a pair of RBIs.
