The Michigan Monarchs defeated the Peninsula Oilers 6-4 on Wednesday in nonleague action at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.
The series continues Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m.
The Monarchs started quickly against Oilers starter and loser Arnad Mulamekic, getting four runs in the first inning and another run in the second inning.
Oilers reliever Connor Kershaw would allow the other run.
The Oilers were down 6-2 entering the bottom of the ninth and tried to rally, getting an RBI single from Ben Griffin and an RBI double from Nick Costello.
Theo Forshey came to the plate as the tying run, but popped out to third.
