The Peninsula Oilers defeated the Mat-Su Miners 4-3 on Wednesday in Alaska Baseball League play at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.
The Oilers have now won the first two games of the five-game set to move to 2-2 this year against Mat-Su in league play. The Miners are 4-3 in the league, while the Oilers are 3-3. Also in league play, the Anchorage Bucs are 5-2, the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks are 4-4 and the Anchorage Glacier Pilots are 3-7.
The series continues Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Seymour Park. Game time each night is 6 p.m.
After the Miners came up with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 3, the Oilers came up with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
Max Sasaki pitched the first five innings for the Oilers, giving up an unearned run on four hits while walking none and striking out two.
Cameron Teper got the win, working three innings and giving up two runs on four hits while walking one and striking out one.
Nicholai Arbach nailed down the save with a scoreless ninth inning, giving up a hit and striking out one while walking none.
For the Miners, Ben DeTaeye gave up three runs in four innings and Jack Hostetler took the loss by giving up a run in four innings.
Kyle McDaniel had a hit, run and RBI for the Oilers, while Ty Thomas and Cole Wilson each had a hit and a run. Also, Colin Robson added a hit and Andres Mitat added an RBI.
For the Miners, Blake Balsz was 2 for 5 with two RBIs, while Nick Bisaccia was 3 for 4 and Ryker Schow scored a pair of runs.
