The Peninsula Oilers defeated the Anchorage Bucs 5-2 on Wednesday in Alaska Baseball League play at Coral Seymour Memorial Park in Kenai.
The teams have now split the first two games of a five-game series. The last three games are at 6 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday.
Peninsula avenged an error-filled loss to the Bucs on Tuesday to improve to 6-5 and drop the league-leading Bucs to 10-3.
The Mat-Su Miners are at 6-8, the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks are at 5-7 and the Anchorage Glacier Pilots are at 6-10.
The Oilers grabbed a 5-0 lead after the third inning Wednesday. Unlike Tuesday, when the Oilers let a 4-0 lead slip from their hands, Peninsula held onto the lead and committed no errors in the game.
Oilers starter Max Sasaki was able to keep the Bucs in check. He allowed a run on three hits in six innings. Sasaki was able to work around five walks and struck out one.
Cameron Teper also was solid in three innings of relief, giving up a run on two hits while walking none and striking out three.
Ty Thomas had a big game for the Oilers, going 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs. Brock Wirthgen was 2 for 3, while Colin Robson was 2 for 4.
The Oilers were able to jump on Bucs starter Cole Carlon. Carlon last four innings, giving up five runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out three.
Bucs relievers Elijah Drew and Adam Enyart combined to hold the Oilers scoreless and hitless over the last four innings.
