The Homer Mariners swept the Nikiski Bulldogs in a pair of Northern Lights Conference soccer clashes Wednesday at Nikiski High School.

Senior forward Uliana Reutov scored the only goal in the girls game, a 1-0 victory for Homer. Reutov delivered her strike late in the second half on a cross from teammate Megan Pitzman.

Alli McCarron had the clean slate in goal for the Mariners, which improve to 3-1 in the conference and 3-7-1 overall.

“Our defense did a good job of keeping them out of their attacking third of the field,” said Homer head coach Mike Tozzo.

Tozzo said he changed the Homer defense up slightly in an effort to keep out the long played balls and through attempts.

“We finally have everybody back, so hopefully we can kind of use that to our advantage going forward,” he added.

Homer boys 6, Nikiski 0

The Homer boys rode off with a shutout win over an undermanned Nikiski squad Wednesday night.

Ethan Pitzman scored a pair of goals for Homer, which moved to 2-1 in the conference and 6-3 overall.

Charles Rohr, Oliver Beck, Charlie Menke and Daniel Reutov also chipped in with goals for Homer.

Kenny Cortez and Tucker Weston combined to preserve the shutout in goal.
