The host Homer softball team defeated Houston 16-7 in five innings on Wednesday in Northern Lights Conference play.
The Mariners move to 3-1 in the NLC and 3-10 overall.
Homer went up 5-2 after the bottom of the first inning, but Houston came back to tie it at 5 in the top of the second. The Mariners took command with seven runs in the bottom of the third. Becca Trowbridge took care of the rest in relief, going four innings and allowing two runs on two hits while walking four and striking out seven.
Ariana Davis and Julie Guess had three runs for Homer, while Alaiyah Brost had two runs, Trowbridge had two RBIs, Layla Triem had two runs, Keagan Niebuhr had two RBIs and Lexy Sweeney had two runs.
